I want to talk about my view regarding the raw vegan diet. I comprehend the concept that cooking food may destroy important enzymes and nutrients and the body need to take from the finite pool of enzymes to assist in digestion of the food. OK then, what is all the talk about needing red meat and fish in the diet? Something really interesting I discovered is that, given sufficient EFA's in the diet from plant foods (avocados and walnuts etc.), our body can actually produce usable DHA from these fats. Granted, it could be more "effort" than you want to put on your body, and it might require some extra nutrients that may be helpful in other areas of the body. But, with the abundance of highly digestible nutrients from raw foods, that may not be an issue. However, as stated earlier, a plant product with DHA is now readily available.
I have no intention to talk about the misnomer that protein isn't found in vegan foods because I believe at this point that notion has been proven wrong, but an additional highly discussed issue about the raw foods diet is the deficiency of the essential vitamin B12, which is said to just be found in animal products. Plenty of raw food eaters will say the same thing and then go on to promote a plant-based supplement with B12 in which "they utilize themselves". So, in closing I would like to give you my take on the raw diet for longer lifespan. To keep it real I do not really know. Although, I believe that there is no doubt that a fully natural raw diet is a very good method to remove toxins and also heal from sickness and possibly disease.
